At Proto-Unique, we design and produce hand-crafted and hand-painted 3D Regimental Mess Shields for serving members and veterans of the Armed Forces
We are proud to have supplied shields to members of many regiments, batteries, and units, and we continue to expand our catalogue as new designs are added.
Each mess shield features a three-dimensional badge or crest with raised lettering and detail, forming part of an integral shield approximately 115mm high. This is mounted onto a waxed wooden mess style shield measuring approximately 180mm high × 150mm wide × 22mm thick, fitted with a recessed sawtooth hanger on the reverse for flush wall mounting.
Scrollwork can be included at the top and bottom if required, with raised lettering and detailing to create a true three-dimensional presentation piece. Like all Proto-Unique products, each shield is personally designed, developed, crafted, and hand-painted by us, making every piece bespoke and unique.

At Proto-Unique, we specialise in custom designed Regimental Style Mess Shields, including new regiment designs, replacement shields, one-off bespoke pieces, and personalised presentation shields.
We work closely with each customer to create a shield that is accurate, meaningful, and personal, reflecting their service, career, or regiment. Whether you require a new regiment design, replacement shield, presentation or retirement piece, or a completely bespoke creation, we can bring your vision to life. Using photos, sketches, reference images, or ideas, we craft shields that are truly unique and designed to be proudly displayed.
Our Custom Design Process
Every custom designed Regimental Style Mess Shield begins with a computer-aided design (CAD), ensuring an accurate and precise layout. From this, we create a mock-up design, which is sent to you for approval before production begins. At this stage, any adjustments can be made to ensure your shield is exactly as you envision.
Once approved, the shield is produced using modern 3D printing techniques, carefully hand-painted, and assembled by hand to create a high-quality, bespoke presentation piece.
We keep our customers updated throughout the process, and final photos of the completed shield are provided prior to packaging and dispatch.
Standard completion time for custom shields is approximately 3–4 weeks from design approval.
FOOTBALL CLUB WALL PLAQUES
where It All Started
Proto-Unique started with a passion for creating decorative football club wall plaques, and we continue to produce a wide range of designs suitable for both indoor and outdoor display.
Each plaque is highly detailed, moulded from a durable polymer plaster to ensure strength and longevity, and hand-crafted and hand-painted to the same high standards as all Proto-Unique products. Every piece is finished with two coats of clear lacquer for added protection and lasting quality.
All plaques are supplied ready to hang, fitted with heavy-duty ‘D’ rings and plastic-coated stainless steel picture wire on the reverse.

Circular plaques: Approximately 350mm diameter × 20mm thick
Shield designs: Approximately 380mm high × 20mm thick
Large designs (e.g., Spurs): Up to approximately 560mm high
